The Van Gogh walking trail around St Remy de Provence meanders through a landscape of shimmering olive orchard and rugged mountain peaks. This ancient terroir is little changed since the great impressionist was inspired to paint some of his greatest works in the region.
A short step from the trail, on old the Roman road to Arles, is the Domain du Mistral, an impressive 300-year-old farmhouse surrounded with 25 acres of private grounds. The farmhouse, or Mas, has been reimagined by interior designer Gérard Faivre to create an appealing, contemporary space, in the heart of Provence.
Seven bedrooms in the main house, as well as a further bedroom in a separate cottage, are comfortable and spacious whilst a large living area, library, and dining room with fireplace make up the rest of the ground floor, along with a main kitchen, staff kitchen and wine cellar. Decor includes an exceptional art collection with several pieces by local artists, as well as furnishings by Christian Lacroix.
