Gili Lankanfushi

When you arrive at Gili you kick off your shoes - and you simply don't wear them again until you leave. It is the epitome of barefoot luxury, with fine service, mouth-watering cuisine and blissful over-water villas.

Your personal Mr or Mrs Friday - always on hand to attend to your every want and need - will take excellent care of you from the moment you arrive at Gili Lankanfushi. Here the staff greet you by name and relaxation is given top priority; unless of course you have itchy feet to explore the incredible underwater world just a stone's throw from the shore. Gili aims to provide the Robinson Crusoe experience but with luxury on tap, and as such has a rustic, pared-back style, a mellow ambience and an obsession with unobtrusive service. Every detail is taken care of - from bicycles with pedals adapted for barefoot exploration to an outdoor cinema for evening films and yoga classes to herald each new day - meaning by the time you leave you will feel rested, refreshed and thoroughly spoilt.

There are 45 villas at Gili, each built on stilts over the water. If you really want to feel marooned, opt for a Crusoe Residence 'in' the water, only accessible by boat. Palatial in size at 250sqm, these castaway  residences are on two levels with a roof-top sun deck with daybed and dining facilities, as well as an over-water sun deck, open-air private bathroom, and large indoor living area; not forgetting your own boat to get you to and from shore if you're game! Alternatively, the Spa Suites have a couple's treatment room, steam room, gymnasium and wooden jet bath on the upstairs terrace overlooking the lagoon. A daily 50-minute full body massage per person and up to a 20% discount at the spa are included.

Genuine hospitality and total escapism.

Children are very welcome. There is no children's club but many of the rooms house families with room to spare, and the staff are sure to dote on younger visitors. Life on the water has pros and cons, and will be a deciding factor when it comes to whether or not the resort is right for your family.

Relaxed and informal, yet extremely luxurious, Gili Lankanfushi makes the most wonderful base for a wedding or honeymoon. The villas are extremely private, and your personal 'Mr/Mrs Friday' will make sure you have everything you need when you are hiding away from the world. Wedding and honeymoon packages are available, and include a variety of romantic experiences that will ensure you are lavished with attention, from spa treatments and sunset dhoni cruises to hideaway private dinners by lamp-light.

Insider Viewpoint

This is a true paradise island, but with impeccable service and outstanding cuisine. The gourmet cellar is a real hidden gem, where not only is there a very well-stocked wine cellar but also a Chocolate Cave serving up some of the most delicious chocolate treats I've ever tasted, complimentary, whenever the urge takes you.
