LUX* Maldives

You'd be forgiven for thinking you've died and gone to heaven when you see Dhidhoofinolhu - all white sands, swaying tropical trees and gentle sea. And if that doesn't do it for you, the wonderful diving, fabulous restaurants and fun ambience surely will.

A large and lively resort offering spacious, private accommodation, LUX* is the best of both if you dream of a family-friendly island paradise where you won't be left twiddling your thumbs. Its villas and central buildings spill out onto what is surely one of the world's most idyllic beaches, and within easy reach there are no fewer than 37 different dive sites, including wrecks, alive with shimmering fish and whale sharks. Back on land, there is nearly always something going on - from tennis to volleyball to yoga against the sound of lapping waves. Come night-time, you will be spoilt for choice by the various international restaurants and bars.

There are 193 rooms in eight different categories, with the option to stay on the beach or over the water. All of the accommodation features thatched Maldivian roofs and a clean, contemporary style, with white walls, plush linens and big windows that open out to the unspoilt beauty of the island. The variety of accommodation has something to suit everyone: Beach Pavilions and Beach Villas are shaded by greenery including banana trees and hibiscus, and are a good choice for families who prefer to stay on the sand; some have the added luxury of their own pools. Sunset Junior Suites are romantically positioned to face the sunset. Water Villas come in a variety of sizes and stand on stilts over the sea, with Prestige Water Villas having panoramic sea views and direct access to the lagoon. And then there is the LUX Villa, which sleeps up to four people and benefits from an infinity pool and a magnificent glass bottom living room over the lagoon.

Entertainment and enjoyment in paradise.

The various different types of accommodation include lots of practical options for families and the staff across the resort welcome little ones and provide entertainment. There are two clubs: PLAY provides care and offers a range of fun activities for children between three and 12; Studio 17, on the other hand, is a more mature place for those aged between 13 and 17 to socilalise and take part in various activities. Both clubs are open between 9am and 7pm and provide child-friendly meals.

Getting married at LUX* will be memorable for all the right reasons. It is a truly beautiful location, and there are plenty of quiet corners in which to take your vows. You could sail away at sunset, or add a bit of fun as the groom arrives by jet-ski. Whatever you have in mind, the team are experienced in organisation, meaning you can bank on things running smoothly. The staff at Lux* are always delighted to spoil honeymooners, too.
