Hidden away amongst a verdant coconut grove, 20
Degrees Sud is a stylish and discreet boutique hotel overlooking a
tranquil blue lagoon at Pointe Malartic. It lies just five minutes
from the buzzing little village of Grand Baie, often referred to as
the 'St Tropez of Mauritius'. Thanks to its small size and
homely feel, the hotel has a convivial atmosphere, while light and
airy interiors and endless sea views lend a lovely peaceful
feeling. The laid-back atmosphere does not come at the expense of
luxury touches such as plush furnishings, excellent cuisine and
charming personalised service - meaning that 20 Degrees Sud offers
what many consider to be the best of both.
The hotel has just 30 rooms and six suites, all of which are
different but share tasteful décor featuring luxury linens, antique
furniture and mod cons including multimedia systems providing
access to film, tv and internet. The rooms are divided into four
categories. Charm Rooms are the smallest but delightfully cosy,
with light fresh décor and views over the coconut grove that runs
down to the sea. Beachfront Rooms are located on the first floor,
with balconies offering lovely views of the bay. The two Suites
also have sea views as well as outdoor Jacuzzis from which to enjoy
them; while Austral Suites are vast and luxurious, with spacious
living areas, outdoor plunge pools or Jacuzzis (depending on
location), and over-hanging balconies that give the impression of
floating on the water.
Coastal seclusion and tranquillity.
The hotel focuses on creating a peaceful retreat for grown-ups
and does not take bookings for families with children.
20 Degrees Sud is a wonderful combination of homely and luxurious. Spotless, beautifully designed rooms, glorious sea views and mouth-watering cuisine combine to make you feel completely spoilt, but the hotel is relaxed and unstuffy, with a pervasive warmth that means after a couple of days you really feel more like you are staying with friends.
