LUX* Belle Mare

FURTHER JOURNEYS IN MAURITIUS  brown-arrow-right.png

Welcoming and quirky LUX* Belle Mare provides everything you need for an Indian Ocean beach retreat, with lots of little extras that make it stand out from the crowd.

Located on the east coast, backed only by green fields and palms and on the edge of a stunning white-sand beach, LUX* certainly has an idyllic location; but the resort has much more going for it. This is one of our favourite hotels on the island as it cares enough to add little touches which make all the difference: there's a traditional red telephone box where you can make calls home free of charge; there are random gaily coloured photo shacks where you can capture your own happy sun-kissed faces as you wander along the beach; and you can even learn the art of cocktail-making at the 'pop-up bars' conveniently located around the resort. LUX* is full of fun for guests of all ages, suitable for families as well as grown-ups seeking a more than average beach break.

The thatch-roof suites and villas at LUX* feature Kelly Hoppen's refreshing touch, with white, neutrals and the occasional use of bright Mauritian colours - orange, blue and yellow. The well-equipped Junior Suites Pool View are ideal if you like to be close to the pool; while beach and water-lovers could opt for the Ocean View Villa with private pool or the romantic Beachfront Villa, which has a lovely thatched dining area on the private patio. Romantic Suites are quiet and tranquil, with terraces overlooking the pond and tropical gardens as well as sound systems and TVs with on-demand films. The LUX* Suite is the ultimate, with private dining room and private butler. Families could choose to connect the LUX* Suite with a Junior Suite, or alternatively take the Prestige Villa - the largest and most indulgent of all the accommodation, with two bedrooms and maximum privacy ensured thanks to a raised position with private gardens, patio and pool.

Fun, hospitality and plenty of optional activities.

LUX* PLAY and Studio 17 look after children and teenagers. From baking and decorating cakes and sand castle competitions to water sports and Teddy Tennis, the LUX* PLAY programme offers a variety of activities that appeal to younger children, while teenagers are invited to Studio 17, where activities include island trips, local dance, beach sports and informal language classes. Across the island the staff will welcome children and there are various activities that the whole family can enjoy together - including watersports and hiking/cycling in the surrounding area.

LUX* is well-equipped for couples and offers a variety of packages for both weddings and honeymoons. Efficient wedding planners can organise everything from the standard necessities such as wedding breakfasts, music and flowers to more personalised experiences. Honeymooners are also given the royal treatment, and will benefit from a raft of opportunities including swimming with dolphins, private dining experiences and couples' spa treatments.

Insider Viewpoint

Completely unique amongst Indian Ocean beach resorts, LUX* prides itself on thoughtful touches that really do make a difference. I was delighted to find a 'message in a bottle' entitling me to a complimentary spa treatment, and I enjoyed perfecting my 'Albanito' at the pop-up bars. The food and drink is also a highlight - whether the unusually good coffee and home-made ice cream or delicious Asian creations. Pre (and post)-dinner drinks are best enjoyed at Club Savanne, where you can sink into comfortable armchairs under a thatched roof.

Something for everyone on the unspoilt east coast.
