Banyan Tree Seychelles

Once the far-flung island sanctuary of Peter Sellers and George Harrison, Banyan Tree Seychelles is unsurprisingly a picturesque paradise with one of the world's most perfect beaches.

Located on the south-western coast of the Seychelles' main island, Mahé, Banyan Tree Seychelles hides away in a privileged location, where dense forests of palms and native takamaka meet a beach that regularly appears on lists outlining the 'best beaches in the world'. The design is a combination of colonial plantation and contemporary cool, with Banyan's signature Asian influences combining beautifully with local Seychellois architecture, defined by the high ceilings, airy verandas and louvered doors. The 700-metre swathe of sand, private pools and spa offer the chance for rest and relaxation, while the many activities - from watersports to forest walks - ensure itchy feet never become a problem.

The 60 villas are scattered across a lush green hillside and along the beach. All have private pools and provide a lovely sense of seclusion. Hillside Pool Villas afford panoramic views; while Pool Villas by the Rocks allow you to listen to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, and Beachfront Pool Villas, designed by local artist George Camille, lie closest to the beach. Intendance Bay Pool Villas provide a splendid bird's eye view of the ocean, bay and tropical mountains, with a set of walkways connecting the villa to its private pool. The Two Bedroom Double Pool Villa is one of the larger villas, with two bedrooms, two private pools and extensive outdoor space. Perhaps the most luxurious of all the villas, the Presidential Villa occupies a private cove and has spacious living and dining pavilions as well as a large sundeck with infinity pool and jet pool. It can be combined with a Hillside Pool villa to create a large two bedroom accommodation.

Rejuvenation, relaxation and pampering.

Banyan welcomes guests of all ages, with a number of villas suitable for families travelling together. There is no children's club, so the resort is best suited to self-sufficient families, but the range of activities means plenty to keep everyone occupied. Options include watching turtles hatch their eggs, visiting local villages and towns, sailing excursions and watersports.

  • Between June and September the weather is typically cool and dry and can be windy - making this season the best for sailing

  • The warm and humid months between November and March typically receive more rain

Insider Viewpoint

One of the things I loved about Banyan Tree is that the team would happily prepare a picnic for lunch, meaning you could wander all the way along the beautiful beach to find a private spot without having to traipse back and smarten up for lunch. The spa treatments were another highlight; try the Harmony Banyan  treatment, the highlight of which is a massage conducted by two therapists, or perhaps the Royal Banyan treatment, which features the Royal Thai Acupressure  massage to improve circulation and alleviate muscle tension.

Tranquil, stylish resort on one of the world’s best beaches.
