A photographer's dream; the unblemished orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei are arguably Namibia's most famous attraction. Climb 'Big Daddy', the largest dune of all or drift upwards in an air balloon, floating over the desert, watching as the mountain ranges drop dramatically into the ocean.
Equally stunning, the desolately beautiful Atlantic coastline is a must on anyone's list. A place where bleached whale bones lie next to seal colonies, where age-old shipwrecks lie washed ashore, where the environment is inhospitable, yet life manages to survive and where dunes can magically shift overnight, the Skeleton Coast is utterly compelling. Characterised by stark plains, valleys and the granite peaks of the Brandenberg Mountains, rugged Damaraland is home to rare desert elephants and endangered black rhino, and of course, more of those gobsmacking landscapes.
But whilst scenery is what the country is possibly best known for, Namibia safari holidays are also noted for their game-rich national parks. Once a lake, now a huge salt pan, Etosha National Park is the most famous of all. Covering savannah, desert and woodland, Etosha offers the opportunity to go on a Namibia safari in search of giraffe, elephant, lion and the endangered black rhino while continuing to marvel at the beauty of this step-back-in-time land. Whilst Namibia makes a fabulous add-on to a safari in either Botswana or Zambia, don't make the mistake of not realizing how more than worthy it is of a one hit holiday. Sensational.
