No amount of imagining can conjure up what Namibia delivers. A country of extremes, it is part moonscape, part dunescape, part verdant landscape. Searing desert disappears into the raging Atlantic along the bleakly beautiful, often fog-bound Skeleton Coast. While in the northeast lush vegetation is a shocking contrast to the barren parched valleys, plains, and peaks in the rest of the country.
Namibia is vast – yet sparsely occupied - with a population of only 2.6 million so wherever you go there an abundance of natural beauty but very few people. In the south terracotta dunes in Namib-Nauklift rise out of the Sossusvlei – a massive white salt-pan dotted with ossified tree trunks. The arduous 325-metre climb up the Big Daddy dune at dawn delivers not only a spectacular sunrise but also unadulterated exhilaration on the charge back down.
Astounding topography aside, luxury safari holidays to Namibia are rich with wildlife especially in Etosha National Park and NamibRand Nature Reserve. A quarter of the world’s cheetahs, the last free-ranging population of black rhino and an array of desert-adapted species: lions, elephants, giraffes, Hartmann’s zebra, oryx, and ostriches make up its abundant animal population.
