Nepal

Nepal offers something for everyone. Kathmandu and the surrounding valley is home to ancient pagoda temples and traditional red brick palaces with intricately carved wooden window and door frames built by Nepal's original Newari kings. Walk through the pedestrianised Durbar Squares and continue into the tiny bazaars to uncover thriving vegetable markets, buy spices from tiny shops overlooking Hindu shrines and enjoy the busy atmosphere in the city.

Once you've explored the city, head into the remoter parts of Nepal, where the people are always cheerful and friendly and the scenery cannot be beaten. In the north, the Himalayas dominate the skyline and the mountain villages bustle with agricultural industry as the people go about their daily lives, enriching any Nepal holiday. The opportunities for trekking on a holiday in Nepal are endless, from day walks offering fantastic views to longer multi-day journeys taking you deep into the hills and closer to the high peaks.  There is a handful of luxurious lodges up in the hills and walking between these makes for an extremely comfortable Himalayan experience, whilst there are plenty of basic tea houses where you can stay if you want more flexibility on your Nepal holiday.

Heading down to the southern plains of Nepal is no more than a five or six hour drive, though if you feel more adventurous, two days of gentle white water rafting, staying in a permanent tented camp overnight next to the river, is a wonderful and remote Nepal holiday experience. The south is home to a vast variety of animal and bird life within the national parks and you can stay right inside the jungle doing elephant back safaris and jungle walks, giving you the best wildlife experience possible on your holiday in Nepal.
