Kathmandu and the surrounding valley is home to ancient pagoda temples and traditional red brick palaces with intricately carved wooden window and door frames built by Nepal's original Newari kings.  Walk through the pedestrianised Durbar Squares and continue into the tiny bazaars to uncover thriving vegetable markets, buy spices from tiny shops overlooking Hindu shrines and enjoy the busy atmosphere in the city.
