Cruising through Vietnam & Cambodia

Day 1 - Hanoi
Arrive in the atmospheric capital of Vietnam, Hanoi.

Overnight: Sofitel Metropole.

Day 2 - Hanoi
Images of Ho Chi Minh ('Uncle Ho') are everywhere and a visit to his imposing mausoleum is always fascinating, but especially evocative at sunrise for the pomp and ceremony of the flag raising ceremony. The picturesque Temple of Literature was the country's first university and now only teaches the philosophies of Confucianism. A traditional cyclo tour is the best way to explore the colourful narrow streets of the Old Quarter and this is the best place to take in a water puppet show, dating back over 1000 years.

Overnight: Sofitel Metropole.

Days 3 - 4 - The Coast
Enjoy three days and two nights cruising through the incredible limestone karsts of Halong Bay. Explore caves, swim in the warm waters of a peaceful bay and appreciate the views as your traditional junk glides between the islands.

Overnight: The Auco.

Day 5 - Saigon
Return to the mainland to fly from Hai Phong to Saigon.

Overnight: Park Hyatt.

Day 6 - Saigon
Uncover the architectural highlights of this exciting city, including the Reunification Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral. Discover the incredible Cu Chi Tunnels and learn about the lives and tactics of the Vietnamese guerrilla fighters.

Overnight: Park Hyatt.

Days 7 - 9 - Mekong Delta Cruise
You have three nights on board one of the finest vessels in Asia as you cruise through the Mekong Delta, from Saigon to Phnom Penh. Traditional Vietnamese and Khmer cultures merge in colourful riverside communities and vibrant markets. Watch the world go by from the pool deck between short walking tours.

Overnight: RV Mekong Pandaw.

Day 10 - Phnom Penh
Disembark in Phnom Penh to enjoy the riverfront bars and restaurants.

Overnight: Raffles Hotel Le Royal.

Day 11 - Phnom Penh
Your exploration of the capital will include the beautiful Royal Palace and time to browse the treasures of the National Museum. Though deeply upsetting the terrifying reign of the Khmer Rouge should not be ignored. The former high school of Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek lay bare the reality of Cambodia's recent past, allowing a far greater appreciation of this fascinating country.

Overnight: Raffles Hotel Le Royal

Day 12 - Siem Reap
Fly to Siem Reap and begin exploring the temples this afternoon. The impressive Preah Khan is the sister temple to Ta Prohm and a great place to start before inspecting the petite yet elaborate fountains of Neak Poan. The royal crematorium at Pre Rup offers great views at sunset.

Overnight: La Residence d'Angkor.

Days 13 - 15 - Siem Reap
Your time will be carefully planned to avoid the crowds where possible whilst capturing key images in their best light. Experience Ta Prohm at dawn, climbing through the tree roots which are reclaiming a beautiful temple, made famous by the film Tomb Raider. The temples of Roluos are the oldest and some of the simplest, whilst the most elaborate carvings are found at Banteay Srei. So fine is the detail here that it is assumed to have been made by women rather than men! Variety is added with a short trek to the fascinating carved riverbank of Kbal Spean and a cruise through medieval floating villages on the Tonle Sap Lake. Discover the blueprint for Angkor Wat as the vast Beng Melea lies engulfed in the voracious forest. Lasting memories will include a dramatic sunrise over the majestic Angkor Wat and the 216 enigmatic faces of the Bayon, which overlook the immense walled city of Angkor Thom.

Overnight: La Residence d'Angkor.

Day 16 - Depart
Fly home from Siem Reap.
