Sailing the Mighty Mekong in Laos

An expedition into the stunning, unspoiled Laotian landscape, as you board the delightful RV Laos Pandaw and glide leisurely along the Mekong to the notorious Golden Triangle, where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand converge. En route, you will explore forgotten sights, atmospheric cities, minority villages deep in the forest, and landscapes unchanged for centuries.

Your home for the voyage will be the comfortable RV Laos Pandaw, a traditional, intimate river cruiser with just 10 staterooms and suites - all of which have panoramic French windows allowing you to take in the river views. On board, you will also find a restaurant and bar as well as plenty of outdoor seating on deck.

Our specialists would be delighted to plan time in Vientiane and Chiang Mai either side of your voyage, and can also provide itineraries and suggestions for gateway cities to the region such as Bangkok if you wish.

Vientiane (pre cruise)

Day 1 - Vientiane
On arrival in Laos' charming capital you will no doubt be struck by the relaxed pace, leafy streets and crumbling colonial architecture. Our representative will collect you from the airport and drive you to Settha Palace - formerly a French palace and now a supremely comfortable boutique hotel right in the heart of town. Buzzing cafes, shops and restaurants are just a short walk away.

Overnight: Settha Palace

Days 2 - Vientiane
Today, a knowledgeable local guide will lead you through the historical and cultural highlights of the city. Just walking around, you'll see many historic French buildings, in between stops at Pha That Luang - the holiest site in the country and supposedly workshipped by Buddhists since the Third Century - and the National Museum and COPE centre (Cooperative Orthotic and Prosthetic Enterprise).

Overnight: Settha Palace

Chiang Mai (post cruise)

Day 1 - Chiang Mai
On arrival in Chiang Mai you will be met and taken to your tranquil, riverside hotel, Anantara Chiang Mai; your balcony commands views of The Mekong with Myanmar and Laos providing the backdrop. You might choose to relax and take it easy, or alternatively head out with or without a guide to explore the city. Highlights include the Doi Suthep temple and tasty Khao Soi, one of the world's favourite Thai dishes. You could also escape the bustle on a bike or kayaking tour through Sri Lanna National Park. Come nightfall, the evening bazaar is very atmospheric.

Overnight: Anantara Chiang Mai

Day 2 - Chiang Mai/Golden Triangle
Today, we recommend exploring the infamous Golden Triangle or taking part in one of the activities you might have missed yesterday.

Overnight: Anantara Chiang Mai
