From Hanoi in the north, it's a short flight down to the central
coast to explore Hue and Hoi An. Hue was capital of the Nguyen
dynasty between 1802 and 1945, and its intriguing ruined temples
and mausoleums dot the banks of the Perfume River. Nearby Hoi An is
an atmospheric old trading town with lively craft workshops, cafés

The southern city of Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City has a younger,
livelier feel than its northern brother, with fantastic shopping,
modern art, and restaurants. The nearby Cu Chi Tunnels provide a
fascinating insight into the tactics of the Viet Cong during the
war; and the Mekong Delta provides the opportunity for a leisurely
cruise along the tropical waterways to see riverside villages and
traditional sampans carrying goods for market.
Hanoi is also well connected with other areas of Southeast Asia,
should you wish to explore further afield.
