Cruising Halong Bay and the Red River

An exciting and pioneering itinerary allowing one to explore the unchartered waters of the Red River in northern Vietnam on board Pandaw Expeditions' latest vessel, RV Angkor Pandaw. Spend 10 nights enjoying a passenger to staff ratio of 2:1 as you explore the stunning scenery and peaceful rivers bordering China and Vietnam in the hands of expert guides and culinary genius.

Built in 2012, RV Angkor Pandaw has 16 cabins split between the main and upper deck, each spanning 170sq ft, and finished in teak and brass. The upper deck includes six premium staterooms, a spacious open-air lounge, air-conditioned dining room, observation deck and a library stocked with contemporary and classic literature. The main deck is home to 10 staterooms. Dining is exemplary, with a local master chef heading an experienced international culinary team who will cater for every passenger's taste; and the boat also has a very well stocked cellar including some of the finest wines and premium brands.

Our specialists would be delighted to plan a longer journey through Vietnam before or after your voyage.

From Hanoi in the north, it's a short flight down to the central coast to explore Hue and Hoi An. Hue was capital of the Nguyen dynasty between 1802 and 1945, and its intriguing ruined temples and mausoleums dot the banks of the Perfume River. Nearby Hoi An is an atmospheric old trading town with lively craft workshops, cafés and shops lining the pretty harbour; there are also some fabulously luxurious hotels.

The southern city of Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City has a younger, livelier feel than its northern brother, with fantastic shopping, modern art, and restaurants. The nearby Cu Chi Tunnels provide a fascinating insight into the tactics of the Viet Cong during the war; and the Mekong Delta provides the opportunity for a leisurely cruise along the tropical waterways to see riverside villages and traditional sampans carrying goods for market.

Hanoi is also well connected with other areas of Southeast Asia, should you wish to explore further afield.
