There’s been a tremendous buzz about Sri Lanka in recent years. The cognoscenti have been quietly slipping down to the superb beaches South of Colombo for some time, revelling in the tropical, golden sands and warm equatorial waters. Sri Lanka may be smaller in land area than the Republic of Ireland, but this colourful island packs a huge amount into its diminutive dimensions - two separate monsoon zones, numerous climates, landscapes, Buddhist temples, historic hill towns, and even cave paintings. Many of our Sri Lankan villas are at the Southern tip of the island, where the countryside turns more verdant and a little wilder. The magnificent coastline is backed by steamy tracts of tropical rainforest, only some of which has been tamed by human endeavour. Where it has, there are tea plantations, rice paddies, orchards and fields, but it’s the beaches, the surfing, snorkelling and even whale watching that has made travellers fall in love with this area.
