Continue to Dar Ahlam. This is a traditional kasbah surrounded by gorgeous gardens with a swimming-pool at the gateway of the southern Morocco desert in the Palmeraie of Skoura. Dar Ahlam has 14 suites and is a beautiful and extravagantly renovated 19th-century Kasbah located between the Atlas Mountains and the desert amidst an oasis of almond trees, olive groves, dates and roses. All of the sumptuous suites have been decorated differently, making creative use of unusual antiques, silk drapes and a palette of soft mauve, deep purple, raspberry-pink and pistachio-green. The Parisian landscape architect Louis Benech was in charge of the gardens where you'll find a heated, T-shaped stone pool surrounded by outdoor massage tents and a mosaic jacuzzi and hammam. Activities will be organized according to your wishes: spend time relaxing under the palm trees in the garden, taking a mule ride in the Valley of Roses, or sipping an aperitif at sunset. For the more adventurous, explore the ochre hued deserts, winding Dades River and the slowly crumbling Kasbahs. Skoura, where your journey starts, was founded in the 12th century by Yacoub el Mansour and named after the regions original inhabitants, the Berbers. Here dense palm groves are crossed by a network of tracks running between various Kasbahs and crops. A short distance away is the kasbah of Amerhidil, a fortified residence considered to be one of the highlights of a visit to the Dades Valley.
