Located in picturesque alpine town of Bezau in the west of Austria, the Hotel Post has been in the same family for generations. Once a post office and staging post it gradually morphed into a hotel which Susanne Kauffman (the great-great-granddaughter of the original owner) has used as a base to develop her successful botanical beauty range.
TREATMENTS AND ACTIVITIES
The main reason to come to the Hotel Post is to take part in a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Detox Programme, which can run from four to 10 days. The doctor-led detox includes a tailored diet plan, yoga and Qigong classes, liver wraps, lymphatic drainage, salt scrubs, detoxifying alkaline scrubs, and sauna infusions. The Hotel Post runs a weekly schedule of complimentary group activities including Qi Gong on six days, guided walks, yoga classes, and visits to the local market.
Susanne Kauffman hails from the Bregenzer Forest in the Austrian Alps, where knowledge of the healing and rejuvenating power of plants has been passed down through the generations. Having first learned from her grandmother, Susanne worked with a team of pharmacists and dermatologists to develop her line of organic treats which now comprises 60 products, many for men as well as women.
The Susanne Kauffman Spa is an oasis of white calm with 16 treatment rooms bathed in complete silence. There is no ‘relaxing' background music here and fragrance is considered the essential sensual event to accompany a relaxing hour or so. A variety of facials and massages are delivered using the Susanne Kauffman natural botanical range of beauty and anti-aging products. In addition guests have the run of the functional but well-equipped gym, indoor heated swimming pool and several saunas and steam rooms. There are also two indoor and two outdoor tennis courts, a small sun terrace with plunge pool, and mountain bikes available for guest use.
Susanne's brother, an architect, designed the new wing of the hotel with its clean-lined, pared-back, modern style. Double/twin rooms are 27sqm with plenty of light, a generous balcony and views of the surrounding hills. Please note that many of the newer rooms have no air-conditioning, fridge or electricity at night (lights function but sockets do not) since the hotel operates an eco-friendly energy system. There are 58 rooms in total.
Guests doing a TCM detox will of course be on a dedicated regime but otherwise food is plentiful and wholesome with a cold breakfast buffet (eggs to order) and generous complimentary afternoon tea included in your room rate. The evening menu is very fairly priced.
