Originally built as a 16th century farmhouse, the villa itself still retains much of its authentic character. Thick stone walls, cooling tiled floors and vaulted ceilings add personality to the interiors, while large open-plan living and dining spaces open up onto a roomy shaded terrace framing the landscape like a watercolour.
Outside, terraced gardens and extensive lawns lead down to a large kitchen garden, supplying many of the ingredients used by the villa’s in-house chef. Fresh oranges are picked and pressed each morning for breakfast, while a bounty of fresh vegetables grown on the estate appear on guests’ plates at lunch and supper. The quirky stone pool becomes a focal point for the days’ activities, and there are plenty of hammocks squirrelled away in the grounds for afternoon siestas. For those looking for something a little more active, the hard tennis court – set away from the main house – helps bring a little healthy competition to a family holiday.
