Anna Cappell, Red Savannah's Caribbean villa specialist

Mustique is one of the Caribbean’s most polished gems. It is a place to retreat to in simply stunning surroundings, and to completely hide away from the world. I have never visited anywhere else quite like it. It is a place where paradisiacal beaches take centre stage, mass tourism feels a million miles away, and magnificent villas come in all shapes and sizes.

For all Mustique’s exclusivity, what I also love about the island is that there are opportunities to meet other people if that is what you are looking for. The island has managed to achieve the perfect balance between privacy and togetherness, with a welcoming social scene for those who seek it. Visitors and islanders mix freely at ad hoc parties, impromptu games of tennis, or over cocktails at the legendary Basil’s Bar. And my advice is to head to Basil’s as soon as you can if you are new to the island – it is impossible not to make friends here!

A Mustique institution, no visit to the island is complete without a visit to Basil’s. Far more than just cocktails, this is a place to make friends, enjoy live music, and maybe even snorkel straight from the beach.
