The lure of the far-away islands dotted across the shimmering South Pacific is as strong today as it was when Captain Cook returned to Britain in the 18th century with tales of a bountiful, exotic paradise; yet today's South Pacific is infinitely more indulgent. Luxury resorts make the most of the spellbinding beauty with overwater bungalows, slick ocean-view villas with private pools, and open-air restaurants and spas, all just a stone's throw from the abundant turquoise waters.
All South Pacific islands have their own brand of diversity and tropical splendour. Bora Bora, one of the most celebrated islands, is a honeymoon hotspot that is prized by couples the world over and a haven for families hankering for unhurried activity. And for those who seek privacy the exclusive private island resort of Laucala, blessed with white sand beaches and friendly Fijian hospitality, is a must-see jewel of the South Pacific.
