Our luxury Antarctic expeditions start in the southernmost tip of Argentina. Gone are the days of basic accommodations on expedition ships; these vessels are not only equipped for everything the Antarctic ocean and weather might throw at them, they are also luxuriously appointed on the inside, with large and comfortable cabins with en suite bathrooms excellent cuisine and first class service.
An expedition across the renowned Drake Passage takes a couple of days, during which you will have a variety of relevant lectures by your erudite crew. Thereafter the ship glides gently in the calm waters of the Antarctic, allowing you to make the most of the astounding land and seascapes and easy landfall is made using small zodiac boats. The experience is one to remember. From seeing (and hearing!) an iceberg calve a few hundred metres away, to being followed about by Chinstrap penguins; from witnessing a humpback whale breaching to exploring the British heritage site of Port Lockroy.
The travel season to Antarctica extends from November through to the end of March with November and December being some of the best time for keen photographers. The short season means early booking is always recommended.
