The Oberoi Amarvilas

Less than half a mile from the resplendent Taj Mahal, The Oberoi Amarvilas boasts one of the most special hotel settings in the world. Designed to imitate a dazzling Indian palace, every part of the property is an ode to Mughal-inspired splendour, with its colonnaded courts, sparkling fountains, marble-shrouded pavilions and gold-flecked ceilings. Vast windows frame an unobstructed panorama of the Taj Mahal in every single guestroom and suite; each one adorned with hand-woven rugs, delicate filigree screens, teak floors and silk headboards.

The air around the sunken swimming pool is thick with frangipani, and the soothing spa provides the perfect antidote to a day navigating the vast mausoleum complex (golf buggies are on hand to whisk guests to and from the gates). There are two restaurants; Esphahan, serving Mughal delights straight from the tandoor oven, and all-day Bellevue – which can probably claim the best sundowner spot in the entire state.

SUITABLE FOR:

  • Couples and romantics

  • Those seeking a truly outstanding experience

THINGS TO DO AT THE HOTEL:

  • Enjoy a signature cocktail from the bar admiring the views of the Taj Mahal
