The location of this striking new lodge is the perfect entry point for exploring the magical region of Mustang. With a name that translates as ‘Plain of Aspiration’ in Tibetan, this remote kingdom was closed off to outsiders for centuries, and echoes of neighbouring Tibet can be seen in Mustang’s other-worldly landscapes, mountain caves, Buddhist monasteries and ancient villages where traditions that go back thousands of years are remarkably preserved.
Shinta Mani’s newest property brings unparalleled luxury and style to the wild expanses of Mustang. Sustainably built from locally-sourced wood, slate and stone, the lodge’s 29 rooms draw inspiration from traditional Tibetan influences. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide breathtaking views towards the jagged slopes of Mount Nilgiri, while soft, hand-woven fabrics offer warmth and colour inside. The signature design flourishes of celebrated landscape architect Bill Bensley add the final touch, incorporating earthy tones that echo the surrounding landscape and striking artworks by the late artist Robert Powell. In keeping with Shinta Mani Mustang’s sustainable ethos, recycled materials have been used to craft unique items of furniture that reflect the resort’s singular personality.
