Locations do not get much more dramatic than Cape Weligama's, which occupies twelve tropical acres spread over a single headland above the deep blue Indian Ocean. Contemporary suites and freestanding villas are laid out in small groups, clustered around generously-sized swimming pools and secluded flower-filled gardens; most come with superb coastal views and verandahs cleverly angled to catch the sunset.
Unwind in the spa with a tea-based massage treatment, or enjoy cocktails at the Bond villain-esque bar tucked underneath the crescent-shaped cliff-edge infinity pool. There are two excellent restaurants at this Relais & Chateaux acclaimed hideaway; choose Sri Lankan and pan-Asian cuisine served against a memorable backdrop at the Ocean Terrace, or sample the superb steakhouse, Tableau, which offers a chef's table experience not to be missed.
