Tucked between beach and bush at the tip of Sri Lankan's south-eastern coast, this wild, off-grid tented lodge borders one of the country's most wildlife-dense nature reserves. Elliptical, cocoon-like tents made from leather-laced French canvas hark back to a time of colonial adventure, albeit with the polish of modern luxury, as freestanding copper tubs and king-sized beds cosy up to vintage safari chairs and antique furniture.
The spectacular domed bamboo restaurant pavilion is open to the elements, serving excellent Sri Lankan and international cuisine; and local flavour is in abundance at the spa too, where Ceylon cinnamon and tea feature heavily in the indulgent treatments. A team of extremely knowledgeable safari guides are on hand to take guests out into Yala National Park, filled with leopards, sloths, crocodiles, elephants and grey langur monkeys, before returning for beach sundowners or a cooling dip in the saltwater infinity pool.
