16 guest cottages, surrounded by green pastures, ancient forests and serene lakes, are located near the main lodge. Plush New Zealand furnishings, antique furniture, natural materials, heated marble floors and open fireplaces grace the interiors, while views of the ocean from your private terrace and the hum of grazing sheep greet you when you step outdoors.
The luxury lodge is a favourite retreat of A-listers and the three-bedroomed owner’s cottage, with wine cellar and infinity pool, was a onetime retreat of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The estate has a 24 metre swimming pool, enclosed by large glass doors that let you enjoy panoramic views of the property while you swim.
Children will love Wharekauhau’s working farm. There is autumn sheep shearing to watch, and, if you are visiting during lambing season, there may be opportunity to bottle-feed a new-born lamb.
Wharekauhau is family-friendly with cottage suites interconnecting for large parties or families travelling together. A children’s menu is available in the restaurant and cots, high chairs and babysitting are all available.
WINE & DINE
The daily-designed menu in the restaurant is full of farm-sourced produce gathered from the garden, orchard and surrounding farm. Tender lamb, juicy beef, farm fresh eggs and seasonal produce will be served daily in the restaurant and rustic country kitchen.
Local restaurants and bars can be found nearby as well as the boutique winery, Palliser Estate that offers a fabulous selection of wines for tasting.
