Just a few steps from the centre of Mouriès, Villa Mouries offers a magnificent summer refuge in the heart of a picturesque Provence village. Located on the south-facing slopes of the Alpilles, the village has been an integral part of France’s olive growing community for over a century. Surrounded by serried ranks of olive trees and vineyards, it’s home to a thriving gastronomic scene and buzzy weekly food market. It is also the ideal launch pad for scenic hikes and bike rides through the Alpilles undulating landscape, as well as days mooching around the region’s breathtakingly beautiful hilltop villages.
Straight out of a Provençal storybook, Villa Mouries has been lovingly restored and renovated by its architect owners, who have injected a serious amount of designer flair into the property while remaining sensitive to its heritage. The ground floor – with its traditional flagstone floors, restored wooden beams and vast windows overlooking the gardens – boasts a farmhouse kitchen and two cosy living rooms with a spectacular fireplace made from natural stone. There are five luxurious double bedrooms in the main house – each with a dressing room and spoiling bathroom – decked out with an eclectic mix of curios made by local artisans and antiques picked up from brocantes. Across the lawn, a summer house harbours a wonderfully private master suite overlooking the pool.
