Whilst less than an hour from the coast, Domaine des Corbières is blessed with a fine Mediterranean climate and proximity to one of South West France's most visitied cities, Carcassonne. This is a stay in 'La France Profonde', real France, in all its sleepy, unspoilt and gastronomcally rich glory. An 'immersive-in-nature' experience, esconced in the heart of the Corbières, the Domaine is typified by its dramatic and undulating landscape and far-reaching views.
Being the largest estate in the vicinity of Carcassonne, there are endless walks across its 630 acres of verdant hills and forest, without another building in site. We highly recommend taking a walk up the Montahut Est hill on the domaine to watch the sunset, perhaps with a picnic hamper and bottle of local wine in hand.
The serene, bucolic tranquility of Domaine des Corbières is unrivalled in the region. When the sun rises and the morning fog descends revealing nothing but rolling landscapes and forests, you could be forgiven for thinking that civilisation is a million miles away. Yet, with the medieval citadel of Carcassonne close by offering excellent summer festivals, concerts and great dining, and with the option of day trips to fine beaches and even the Pyrenees, nearby tennis and golf, the property is a perfect base to explore this culturally rich region, with as much or as little effort as you desire. For those seeking complete relaxation, the sounds of the cicadas are the only audible interruption and the abundance of hiking and horse-trekking options on-site are the perfect way for trying to spot the local wildlife.
The focus during the day falls upon the excellent pool area, with its well-equipped pool house, BBQ and music system enabling a party-type atmosphere, with the stunning outdoor lighting ensuring that the party can continue long into the night, without the worry of interrupting any neighbours. The rambling Mas, a la Provencale, offers large, light living spaces with a feature entrance hall and staircase leading off to the fabulous farmhouse kitchen and several further living and dining areas. The original stone floors and thick stone walls ensure the property remains cool throughout the heat of summer, with interiors typified by classical and elegant furniture. Whilst the style is respectful of the grand, historic nature of the house, with period furniture and artwork throughout and original working fireplaces, modern creature comforts have not been neglected with super-fast internet and a stunning Ultra-HD projector (4m x 3m) to watch all the latest movies on offer.
