During the 1930’s, author Gerald Durrell wrote three largely autobiographical novels about his family's four years living on Corfu. More recently those stories have made the small screen in a television show, ‘the Durrell’s’. Given the authentic beauty of the property, it is natural that Villa Posillipo was chosen as the filming location for that series.
Built in the 18th century, the villa sits in two acres of Mediterranean gardens, including 200m of shoreline and a wonderfully private pebble beach. A swimming pool is surrounded with lawns and pine trees, while a tennis court is a welcome recent addition.
Interiors are traditionally but comfortably furnished, featuring airy high ceilings and original tiled floors. Antique pieces include a grand piano and a fabulous marble bathtub originally made for the Achilleion Palace. Most windows across all floors offer glimmers of the azure sea, a lovely constant whilst at the property.
The modern kitchen is presented with vintage cabinetry, an 18th century wood-burning stove and access to the adjacent al-fresco dining area.
On the first floor, is a master bedroom and a double bedroom, both east facing with sea-views and a drawing room with a garden view. On the second floor are three further bedrooms which can be made into double or twin rooms, all with en suites. Two have a sea-view and one overlooks the gardens.
The villa offers excellent facilities for babies and young children with two cots, a changing table, baby bath, high chair and toys.
