Originally built for an aristocratic family in 1919, this Italian gem has retained the charm of a private home despite its 71 rooms and host of attentive staff. The setting of Villa Sant'Andrea is undeniably its trump card; surrounded by sub-tropical gardens on a private stretch of sandy beach, with the must-see town of Taormina a mere three minutes away by cable car.
Villa Sant’Andrea’s rooms and suites exude timeless Italian style and feature indulgent, en-suite marble bathrooms. Classic rooms offer views across the sub-tropical gardens or the elegant courtyard, some with balconies, whilst Superior and Deluxe rooms look out over the Bay of Mazzaro; the former boasting a picture window or French balcony and the latter a private terrace or balcony. Suites and Junior suites offer a separate living room, as well as a balcony or terrace and either a garden or sea view.
Days can be easily filled between the beach, heated infinity pool, hammam and fitness centre. Watersports can be arranged by the Concierge and include pedalos, stand up paddle boards and yachts. Motorboats can also be chartered to explore the coastline and neighbouring islands. Whilst local restaurants are only a stone’s throw away, Villa Sant’Andrea’s Oliviero restaurant has the edge with its enviable location on its own shoreline and the freshest seafood on offer for lunch or dinner. The hotel’s bar serves a fine array of cocktails and wines, but make sure you also try the Napoli-style pizza, or you will find Sunset Sicilian Mojito hard to say!
For the more restless, we recommend a private guided walk around the old town combined with a visit to the remarkably well-preserved, 3rd Century Greek Theatre. Next to the theatre is Villa Sant’Andrea’s sister property, Grand Hotel Timeo, whose Literary Terrace is the ideal spot for an aperitif and view of Mount Etna before taking the shuttle back down for dinner.
