Soundtracked by the mellow chorus of birds and the gentle hum of a passing tractor, Villa delle Vigne offers guests the unique experience of immersing themselves on a working wine estate in the heart of Chianti. Here, dogs snooze languidly in the sun; workers discreetly potter by enroute to harvest olives and press grapes, and views are as pastoral as they come, looking out over uninterrupted scenes of vineyards and cypress tree-studded hillsides. Equidistant between Florence and Siena, slicing through the breathtakingly beautiful Chianti wine route and a stone’s throw from the medieval hilltop town of Castellina in Chianti, the villa and its grounds has been in the same family for centuries, giving guests a rare glimpse into rural Tuscan life at its most authentic.
With the ground floor of the historic villa taken up by estate offices and the family’s private quarters, guests have full access to a separate wing spread across the upper floors. Beautifully modernised, the villa is regularly used by the family to host their own hunting parties and celebrations, meaning it is packed with creature comforts including air conditioning and a cinema room. Elegant décor includes oil paintings and antiques from the owners’ private collection, and a handful of the nine comfortable bedrooms come with four-poster beds. Downstairs, atmospheric dinners can be arranged in the wine cellars, catered for by a private chef.
