  2. Day 1 Anchorage - Winterlake Lodge

    When you arrive in Anchorage you will be collected from the airport and driven to Lake Hood. Your float plane will meet you at the dock for a scenic flight up to Winterlake Lodge in the interior, where your hosts will be waiting to welcome you and show you to your cosy log cabin. After lunch in the main lodge, join a fly-casting lesson or a fishing excursion, or simply relax and settle in. In the early evening, the lodge offers a cooking class and cheese and wine tasting before dinner. After dinner is a lovely time for a boat ride on the lake, during which you might spot otters, moose and black bear. The lodge also runs an evening education programme in the lounge.

  3. Day 2 Winterlake Lodge

    Yoga is offered each morning at 7am, with breakfast served from 8. There are many ways to occupy yourself at Winterlake, whether relaxing in the hot tub, enjoying a boat ride or a hike looking out for bears, eagles, wolves and caribou, or taking part in more active pursuits such as kayaking, heli-hiking, dog mushing, snow-shoeing and fishing. The on-site helicopter is on hand to transport you to more remote areas if you are feeling adventurous.

  4. Day 3 Red Lake

    A short hike from the lodge will take you to Red Lake, where your canoes will be waiting. Your guide will accompany you on a leisurely canoe across the lake, where moose, swans, loons and bears are frequently spotted. When you reach the other side, you will be able to join the Iditarod - a walk along which will bring you conveniently back to the lodge. Your walk will take you through a forest where blueberries, cranberries and currants grow in summer; you are welcome to pick some and bring them to your cooking class later in the day. You can choose to enjoy lunch along the way or back at the lodge.

  5. Day 4 Transfer to Tutka Bay

    After breakfast, your float plane will pick you up at the dock to take you South and East to Kachemak Bay. The scenic 70-minute flight is a great opportunity to looks out for moose, bears, eagles, and beluga whales below. You will arrive at Tutka Bay at around 10.30am, and your hosts will meet you on the dock to check you in and give you a brief introduction to the place and the activities on offer. The private cabins have lovely views of the Grace Ridge and Tutka fjord. Spend the day enjoying the seaside- kayaking or taking in the local ecology and wildlife, which includes nesting eagles, black bears, whales and otters. There is a yoga class at 3pm, and the team will start serving appetisers from 6.30 to whet your appetite for the hearty and delicious three-course dinner.

  6. Day 5 Bear Viewing

    Today is all about bears. Katmai National Park and coast are home to one of the world's largest populations of brown bears, and today one of the region's expert guides will take you to some of the best vantage points from which to watch them. You might see the bears catching salmon, digging for clams or scouring the coastline for sedge grass. Enjoy a packed lunch prepared by the lodge while you are out, returning to the lodge in the early afternoon; just in time for a local cookery class during which you can help prepare the appetisers for that evening. Delicious cheese and wine accompanies the appetisers from 6.30pm before dinner; and afterwards we recommend a dip in the hot tub or a spot of nature watching or fishing at low tide.

  7. Day 6 Kachemak

    Enjoy a few hours' hiking in the Kachemak Bay State Park or a boat ride to the Grewingk glacier. You guide will prove an informative companion as you learn about the anatomy of the glacier and take a hike around the lake, surrounded by spectacular views over the iceberg-strewn waters. If you wish to stay out for the day, the lodge will prepare a picnic lunch. Or alternatively return to the lodge for afternoon yoga or to enjoy your complimentary massage.

  8. Day 7 Depart

    Tutka's morning yoga class and hearty breakfast will set you up for your day's travelling. Bid the team farewell as you board Mako's water taxi to Homer, from where you will be transferred to Anchorage for your flight home.
