WHERE TO GO IN APRIL

Easter is here and Europe is warming up so the world is your oyster, from short haul city breaks to southern African safaris and beyond to the delights of the Far East.

April is cherry blossom season in Japan so go now to see the country at its prettiest. From the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to charming, historic Kyoto via the bullet train, Japan has a tendency to surprise and delight all who visit.

Only a short flight away, Marrakech also provides a complete change of culture with its minarets, bustling, spice-scented souk and traditional riads nestling at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.

Meanwhile southern Spain is hotting up and the Andalucian cities of Seville, Jerez, Cordoba and Granada make for a great weekend break. Seville in particular gets into full fiesta swing with the Feria de Abril taking over most of the month.

Bhutan comes into season in April so if you have yet to discover its rich and unspoilt heritage now is your chance. Famous for its precipitously-perched Buddhist temples with awe-inspiring valley views the country also now boasts some really world-class hotels.

Botswana’s Okavango Delta receives the first of it floodwaters, which then drive high concentrations of game into its private reserves. For sheer ‘wow’ factor, Botswana’s pristine waterways, luxury lodges and plethora of Big Five game is hard to beat.

Northern Thailand’s Golden Triangle is the place to bond with rescued elephants and understand the history of Opium Country. This is easily combined, via slow boat down the Mekong River, with Luang Prabang in neighbouring Laos, home to temples, monks and delicious Laotian food.
