August is a surprisingly good month to travel to a diverse variety of destinations in the Americas, Africa, Southeast Asia and, of course, Europe. At this time of year the world really is your oyster.
It’s still prime safari season for most of Africa with the wildebeest migration pounding across the plains of the Maasai Mara and Serengeti in Kenya and Tanzania, Botswana’s Okavango Delta still in flood and South Africa enjoying the best time of year (dry and cool) for game viewing. Namibia offers a counterpoint of desert wilderness and striking tribespeople and is a great place to self-drive.
Book early to get the best of our European private villa portfolio and find somewhere to be comfortably ‘en famille’ but with staff to do the heavy lifting for you. Enjoy the panoramic views of cypress-strewn hills and vineyards from one of our Tuscan idylls complete with generous swimming pools and shaded loggias. Or rent an elegantly-restored Provencal ‘Mas’, deep in lavender-scented countryside and within reach of charming French villages. If the beach and sea views is more your thing then Spain’s Balearic Islands will deliver.
August is a great month to walk the Inca trail (or simply be driven) to Machu Picchu in Peru, where the verdant rain forest gives way to the soaring Andes and the UNESCO world heritage town of Cusco. Historic Lima and the mysterious Nazca Lines also wait to be explored.
Far to the east but well worth the flight, the waters of the Indonesian Archipelago, rich in marine life, beckon for world-class diving off the coasts of Bali and Lombok. Every island offers something different from the temples of Java, to the dragons of Komodo and the deep spiritual life of Bali. Perhaps charter one of our beautiful yachts to discover unspoilt beaches and fertile coral reefs or visit Sumba with its unique cultural heritage, awesome surfing and native horses.
