This is a great month for ‘mid’ haul adventures in the Middle East and North Africa, where temperatures have now dropped to a bearable level and you can find the exotic with relative ease. Alternatively, go all the way ‘down under’ for early summer sun and outdoor adventure.
Family half term holidays were made in Mauritius and its Indian Ocean view hotels have everything from top-end spas to exhilarating water sports and superb children’s clubs to keep everyone happy.
With good air connections, you will still find blue skies and sunshine in Morocco. The perfect long weekend or half term destination, discover the minarets of Marrakech with its buzzing, spice-scented souk, Moorish architecture and mountains.
Further afield but still relatively close by lies Oman with its family-friendly hotels, desert lodges and camps. Take a 4x4 journey into its beautiful interior to explore wadis (valleys) and mountains, the fortress and souk at Nizwa and the superb fort at Jabrin.
This is also a good time to visit most of India and especially Rajasthan with its fascinating imperial cities and rich cultural heritage. Just to the north Nepal’s dramatic Himalayan ranges harbour traditional villages and spectacular scenery for trekking.
