The drawing room of La Casella bathes in sunlight. Mediterranean sunshine streams in through the south-facing, floor-to-ceiling windows, providing warmth and clarity to the thousands of spines which line a library of bookcases. Adjacent to the drawing room is the summer terrace, a delightful and shaded seating area edged with pots of oleander and citrus, and harmonised with the sound of a trickling fountain. The terrace is also the starting point to a journey of discovery around one of the most exceptional gardens on the Riviera. Beyond a small lawn, pathways navigate terraces of wild-flower borders and wisteria-draped pergolas, reappearing again at the end of precise box-hedging and rose-covered walkways. Sculptures, fountains and trompe l'oeil features create focal points and an irresistible invitation to discover further.
Above terraces of olive groves is a summer house with swimming pool, furnished with sun loungers to capture a dose of the southern sun. From here views extend across the grounds to the mountains of the Riviera, the foothills of the Alps, before they descend into the sea.
Accommodation is divided between the main house, with two double bedrooms each with bathroom, and a single room with access to an adjacent shower room, and the guest house with a further two doubles, each with bathroom, and a single room sharing a bathroom. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, come with high-thread linens and fluffy bath towels, smart bathrooms and air-conditioning. Only around fifty metres separates the two buildings, the sense of individual space is remarkable, with each room thoughtfully presented and private.
A delightful on-site guardian couple, James and Pascale, are on-hand to provide assistance where required, including housekeeping, laying out of pool towels and collection of the daily croissants!
